Beat Pollen This Spring

Weather is warming up, days are getting longer, and the only snow in sight is what’s left of the massive mound in the mall parking lot. We all are so excited to get outside and enjoy spring! Only problem is a massive amount of pollen was just released into our atmosphere and if you’re one of the 50 million Americans suffering from allergies each year, you’re in trouble.

We would like to pose a question… Why in a day of smart cars and smart phones are people suffering from pollen? The measly powder-like substance causes us sore throats, runny noses, sneezing, coughing, watery eyes…you know the routine. Isn’t it about time there was some sort of “smart way” to deal with this?

This post aims to offer several very smart solutions to pollen and hopefully by the end you’ll be equipped with the tools you need to leave pollen in the dust!

As long as we’re being all smart and what not, let’s get a proper definition on what we’re dealing with here. Pollen is a fine powdery substance, typically yellow, consisting of microscopic grains discharged from the male part of a flower or from a male cone. Each grain contains a male gamete that can fertilize the female ovule to which pollen is transported by the wind, insects, or other animals.

One smart way to deal with pollen is to keep an eye on pollen counts which are often mentioned in weather reports and available online. Dry, warm, and windy days are worst, while rainy days tend to ground the pollen, keeping the air clear.

Smart ways to avoiding pollen indoors include turning on the air conditioning and keeping pets away from the bedroom.  Changing clothes and showering after coming in from outdoors is also helpful. Covering your bed and other furniture with a sheet during the day and washing in the evening is a wise move.

The smartest way to prevent allergic reactions is to keep pollen from entering your lungs in the first place! The best way to do this and still enjoy the sunshine is to wear an air filtration mask that covers your nose and mouth. It just so happens that RZ offers the perfect mask for this application.

The M2 Mesh Mask with HEPA filter is a comfortable, breathable, light-weight solution to pollen and will keep you breathing clean air this spring. The HEPA filter allows for effortless airflow making it especially beneficial for running, biking, hiking, working, or doing anything active outdoors that’s going to cause an increased breathing rate. Increased breathing rate causes a larger volume of air intake which means higher pollen intake, so the RZ Mask is especially helpful.

Unless you’re camped out on a mountain top this spring or adrift in the ocean, pollen will be just about everywhere. By following these tips, you’ll be better prepared to fight back against pollen. Put the suffering behind you this year and enjoy the sunshine!
